We are heading to North Carolina for out first time! We cannot wait to cross this trip off of our bucket list: the massive white tundra swan. North Carolina plays a vital role in the yearly cycle of the eastern population of tundra swans, wintering more swans, by far, than any other state on the East Coast. Each fall, approximately 65,000 - 75,000 swans migrate to northeastern North Carolina to take advantage of the abundant food sources. North Carolina is becoming a true trophy hunter’s paradise for swan, with North Carolina waterfowlers harvesting more tundra swans than any other state. The chances are plentiful to obtain the swan of your choice. North Carolina holds 6,500 permits for use by both residents and nonresidents.

Fourth Generation Outfitters specializes in North Carolina guided swan hunting. They have six World Swan Calling Championships under their belts, and a 100% opportunity rate, so there's no question these guys are the best in business!

Something to note: we will need to apply for a party tundra swan permit in order to participate in this hunt. In order to apply, each applicant must hold a valid North Carolina hunting license and North Carolina waterfowl privilege license by October 1. The basic hunting license does not include the waterfowl privilege, it must be purchased separately. Those without these licenses and their party members will be disqualified from the drawing. We will meet virtually on Friday, October 1 to ensure we all have the necessary licenses and permits applied for.

The guides are happy to clean your birds or they will show each of you in detail how to clean them yourselves. I don’t know about you, but one of these is sure to go on my wall and maybe a few in the freezer. Swan is more like a duck than it is like a goose. In fact, the closest thing that it can compare it to would be canvasback duck: dark, tender, mild, and clean-tasting.

The cost of this trip will be $750, which will include three days of swan hunting and four nights of lodging at a beautiful Airbnb in Elizabeth City! Plan to arrive the evening of Wednesday, January 19 to a group of newly found friends at our Airbnb. We will hunt Thursday, Friday, Saturday morning, and head home by 11 a.m. on Sunday.

We only have seven spots available for this trip and it will fill up fast so make sure to snag your spot right away! The total cost of this trip will be broken up between a non-refundable deposit of $250 and two payments after that of $250.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Step 1: Purchase state hunting 10-day: statewide hunting for nonresidents during the 10-day period specified on the license. License includes hunting on game lands. It does not include big game hunting, the state waterfowl privilege, or the federal duck stamp. This is an $80 license and will need to be purchased previous to applying for the swan permit. If you do not have this you will be disqualified from the drawing. https://www.eregulations.com/northcarolina/hunting/hunting-trapping-licenses

Step 2: Purchase migratory waterfowl hunting license (state): needed to hunt waterfowl. A state hunting license is also required. This is a $14 license and will need to be purchased prior to applying for the swan permit. If you do not have this you will be disqualified from the drawing. https://www.eregulations.com/northcarolina/hunting/hunting-trapping-licenses

Step 3: Apply as a group for party preference points! Do not do this step on your own, we will do this together as a group on Friday, October 1 via a live meeting. https://www.ncwildlife.org/Licensing/Permit-Hunting-Opportunities/Tundra-Swan
