TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

We are off to the beautiful country of South Africa for the trip of a lifetime! Six ladies will have five days of targeting South African plains game. Plan to arrive around 5PM SAST, on Sunday to meet your fellow hunters at the airport, followed by a scenic drive to our hunting camp. We will grab dinner on the way to camp, or eat dinner at the airport. Upon arrival at camp, we will settle in our rooms before waking up early the next day for our adventure.

Monday we will start our adventures out to the bush! We will start out each day with breakfast before heading out to hunt. After our morning hunt we will head back to camp for lunch and a small break, before heading back out for our afternoon hunt. Once we are done hunting for the day, our PH’s (personal hunter) will drop us off at camp for dinner and great conversation by the fire. Our hunting schedule will be mostly the same schedule for Tuesday - Friday. Saturday morning we will have a late breakfast, before we start our trip back to the airport. Plan to depart from the airport around 8PM SAST on Saturday.  All meals while we are at the outfitters lodge are included in the pricing of this trip, as well as the daily laundry service. Beginners are welcomed! No hunting experience is necessary for this trip, but it is encouraged to hit the range before our trip to get comfortable with a rifle. This hunt (and all Her Wilderness adventures) is a chance to encourage and uplift other women. When our gals are harvesting an animal, we expect you to be encouraging, and supportive! You should be just as excited to watch your new friends harvest their animal, as you are to harvest your own!

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS + MISC. DETAILS

Our base camp for the week will be a comfortable and spacious camp owned by our outfitter. We will have luxurious accommodations that feature South African touches such as handmade decor and handpainted wall art. We will also have a daily laundry service, so you can pack lightly! Keep in mind that you will likely be sharing a room with your other hunters – please be prepared for that! The specific camp we stay at will depend on the species of any additional animals that the majority of our group decides to target.

You are welcome to bring in your own rifle or bow to hunt with, or there will be rental rifles available. We will need to know at least three months prior if you plan to bring your own weapon, or to rent. Rifle rentals are $75 + $25 for ammo.

If you are bringing your own rifle, you will need a .270 to .338 to take down plains game. If you plan to target a buffalo, you will need .375 or upwards.

For tipping, plan for the below (in USD):

  • Guide: $80 - $100/day (5 days of hunting)

  • Tracker: $10/day (5 days)

  • Skinner: $10/animal harvested

  • Chef: $100

  • Kitchen Staff: $20

  • Cleaning Staff : $20

TIp is NOT included in the price of this trip. Please plan to bring CASH (USD) for tips.

TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN.

For this trip, our outfitter has graciously offered the package of a lifetime! This trip will include one warthog, one impala, one blue wildebeest or zebra, and one management animal. The management animal will be decided by our outfitter once we get to SA, based on a number of different scenarios. Because we will be traveling internationally, you will need a passport. If you do not already have a passport, be sure to apply for your passport ASAP, to give plenty of time for processing - you will need your passport in hand before we depart for our trip! Licensing will be taken care of by our guides and is included in the package price. No purchasing of any licenses will be necessary. However, if you choose to add any extra animals that require a permit, we will need to know in advance (at least three months before our trip), to allow the outfitter time to prepare any necessary paperwork. No vaccinations are required. Global entry is also encouraged, to make your trip back to the states easier when we come home! Having global entry will allow you to get through customs and immigration MUCH faster than the average person. Find out more about global entry here: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry

If you plan to have any taxidermy done from your harvests - our outfitter can handle that for you. If you prefer to have your own taxidermist handle your mounts, our outfitter can do the raw prep for the harvests to have them prepped for shipping them back to the states. Once the raw prep or taxidermy is completed, our outfitter will handle setting up the shipping from South Africa to the states. Once arriving in the states, the shipping company will handle setting up the shipping from the port to your location. Taxidermy & shipping of all mounts will be the hunter’s responsibility.

Although we will not be able to ship the meat from our harvests home with us, our outfitter will prepare us meals each night with the meat from our harvests. The meat from our harvests will be split three ways: ⅓ will feed the clients (us) and workers at camp, ⅓ will feed the village next door to the camp (where the families of the workers live), and the final ⅓ is donated to an orphanage in the area. Each morning while we are at camp, the butcher at our lodge will visit the freezer that holds our harvests. There, he will choose the best cuts of meat for our breakfast, lunch, and dinners each day.

AIRPORTS + TRAVEL INFORMATION

For this trip you will need to fly into the Johannesburg International Airport (O.R. Tambo International Airport) (JNB). Our guides will pick us up from the airport and we will head to the camp - the camp we stay at will depend on the additional animals our group decides to target, if any. We may also split time between two different camps, this way we can ensure everyone has a chance at their targeted animals! If you plan to bring your own weapon, be sure to submit the proper documentation to your airline in the appropriate amount of time. Our guides will be able to help us collect our weapons at customs in the JNB airport, if anyone chooses to rent. We recommend waiting to book your flights to be in sync with the other women attending to make traveling from the airport to the camp easier. Tentatively plan to arrive sometime in the afternoon (around 5PM SAST) on Sunday, August 25th, and depart in the evening (around 8PM SAST) on Saturday, August 31st.

It’s always a good idea to book your flight after joining the facebook group! That way you are able to communicate with others attending the trip to book your flights in sync!
