OKLAHOMA WOMEN'S SPOONBILL FISHING

WEDNESDAY APRIL 3, 2024 - SATURDAY APRIL 5, 2024

OOLOGAH, OKLAHOMA | SPOONBILL FISHING TRIP

TOTAL COST: $795 | DEPOSIT: $395 (THIS IS NON REFUNDABLE)

REGISTRATION OPENS: FRIDAY 11/22/2024

Join us for a weekend in Oolagah, Oklahoma, where the thrill of spoonbill fishing awaits! Get ready to test your angling skills against these incredible fish, which can weigh in at over 80 pounds. Reeling in one of these prehistoric giants is not just a challenge; it’s an experience you won’t soon forget! Spoonbills, known for their distinctive paddle-like beaks, are native to Oklahoma and use their unique anatomy to detect prey in the water. We’ll have the opportunity to land a BANDED spoonbill! This is part of an exciting research initiative by the Oklahoma Wildlife Department where they net, weigh, measure, and mark these magnificent paddlefish with a metal band on their lower jaw—meaning you might just leave this trip with a little bling! Our knowledgeable guide will lead us out onto the scenic waters of Oolagah Lake, where we’ll spend two half days fishing for these remarkable creatures. The serene backdrop of the lake combined with the thrill of the catch promises an unforgettable experience. This trip is designed for a group of 10 women, offering a supportive and fun environment to bond over our shared love of fishing. Please plan to arrive after 4 PM on Wednesday, giving you time to settle in and prepare for the adventures ahead. We’ll kick off our fishing escapades and wrap up the weekend by mid to late afternoon on Saturday, leaving plenty of time to share stories and celebrate our catches. Pack your gear and get ready for an adventure filled with camaraderie, excitement, and the chance to connect with nature in one of Oklahoma’s hidden gems. We can’t wait to see you on the water!

DEPOSIT + PAYMENT INFORMATION

We are able to offer this weekend at only $795 per person, which will include a nonrefundable deposit of $395 and 2 additional payments of $200. Please read carefully: All payments must be made by their due dates. If you anticipate a delay, we encourage you to communicate with us, and we will do our best to work with you. However, if payments are overdue and we have not heard from you, we will assume you are forfeiting your spot, and any payments made will not be refunded. TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN.

We are fishing for spoonbills, also known as paddlefish! To participate, you'll need an Oklahoma Fishing License and a Paddlefish Permit. These prehistoric fish are filter feeders, so we won't be using traditional bait. Instead, we'll be snagging them using stout surf rods, heavy test lines, and barbless hooks. The harvest limit is one paddlefish per person per day, with a maximum of two paddlefish allowed to be harvested per year. You’re welcome to catch as many spoonbills as you’d like until you choose one to keep. Once you decide to harvest, our guide will filet and package the meat for you. Fun fact: when cooked, paddlefish filets have a texture similar to pork chops! Additionally, if you want to preserve your paddlefish's beak, we can arrange for it to be mounted in a European style. Your coordinator will take any heads designated for mounting to Skulls Unlimited in Oklahoma City after the trip. Get ready for an amazing fishing experience!

EXPECTATIONS + NO DRAMA POLICY

We want to ensure that every trip with Her Wilderness is enjoyable and memorable, but we acknowledge that sometimes things don’t go as planned. Mother Nature has a significant impact on our outdoor adventures, so we encourage you to approach each trip with a positive attitude and a "go with the flow" mindset. If this feels unreasonable to you, we kindly ask that you reconsider registering for our events. Weather can be unpredictable, affecting activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing, and our top priority is always your safety. For instance, if your trip is focused on duck hunting but our guide believes a goose hunt is more feasible, we will follow their expert recommendation. If this kind of flexibility is not something you're comfortable with, we encourage you to think twice about joining us. We expect all participants to maintain a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. Many of our trips have faced changes, cancellations, or rescheduling, yet the understanding and adaptability of the group have made all the difference that still allows for an incredible experience! We take pride in creating fun experiences, even in challenging situations. Please be aware that our trips may involve sharing accommodations with others, unpredictable weather that could impact planned activities, limited bathroom facilities for larger groups, and the possibility of not harvesting the specific animal you hoped for. These are real scenarios that can arise, and while we’ll do our best to minimize issues, they can happen. We strive to maintain a drama-free and stress-free environment. If any participant brings negativity or drama, they will be asked to leave without a refund and will not be allowed to return. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and valued, so we ask for your cooperation in keeping a cool, calm, and collected attitude throughout the trip. We truly appreciate each of our customers and are committed to providing the best possible experience for all participants. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to creating unforgettable memories together!
