NORTH CAROLINA NEW YEARS SWAN HUNT

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 30TH - FRIDAY JAN 1ST, 2026

FAIRFIELD, NC | NEW YEARS TUNDRA SWAN HUNT

TOTAL COST: $650 | DEPOSIT: $350 (THIS IS NON REFUNDABLE)

GROUP APPLICATION MEETING ON SUNDAY 08/09/26 @ 7pm CST

COORDINATOR: LAUREN GRANT

This is a true bucket list waterfowl experience, and you are invited. Join Her Wilderness in North Carolina for an incredibly rare and unforgettable hunt targeting the iconic tundra swan. Each winter, more than sixty five thousand tundra swans migrate through the region, creating a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue one of the most majestic birds in North American waterfowl hunting.

This trip blends tradition, conservation, and connection. We will hunt alongside experienced guides who know these birds and this landscape inside and out, stay in cozy comfortable accommodations, and share the kind of early mornings and late night conversations that make Her Wilderness hunts so meaningful. There is also the option to have your bird cleaned and cooked or prepared for a mount, allowing you to honor the experience in a way that feels right to you.

Because of conservation regulations, tundra swan hunting in North Carolina is controlled and requires a special permit. These permits are issued through a limited entry lottery system managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Drawing a permit is required to legally harvest a tundra swan, and permits are capped each year to protect the species.

This trip is entirely dependent on the lottery process. We will only move forward with collecting deposits and making formal trip plans if our group is successfully drawn and every participant receives their tundra swan permit. If we do not draw, we do not go. This ensures we remain fully compliant with regulations and conservation standards. Our hunt date is locked in for Thursday Dec 31st, 2026!

Permit and License Requirements

In order to apply for a tundra swan permit, every participant in our group, both North Carolina residents and non residents, must have the following licenses purchased by September 1, with no exceptions:

A valid North Carolina hunting license + HIP
A valid North Carolina waterfowl privilege license

If even one person in our group is missing either of these licenses by the deadline, the entire group will be disqualified from the lottery drawing. A tundra swan permit cannot be used without these licenses, and it is not possible to legally hunt tundra swans in North Carolina without being drawn in the lottery.

We know this process can feel overwhelming, especially if this is your first time applying for a limited entry hunt. You will not be doing this alone. Her Wilderness will guide you through every step. Once you join the waitlist, you will be added to a group communication thread, and we will host a virtual meeting to walk everyone through the application process and ensure all requirements are met correctly and on time.

Please join the waitlist for this trip by clicking the SAVE YOUR SPOT button above. Joining the waitlist allows us to gather interested participants and begin the permit application process together. Deposits will only be collected if our group is selected in the lottery and all permits are issued. This is a rare opportunity to pursue an extraordinary bird in a way that honors conservation, tradition, and community. If you have ever dreamed of checking tundra swan off your bucket list, this is your moment!
