Fishing Regulations for Florida's Gulf Coast

The waters off Florida’s Gulf Coast are teeming with incredible species, and we’ll be focusing on a few of the most popular and delicious fish, along with scallops. Here are the key fishing regulations for the species we're targeting during the trip:

  1. Red Snapper

  • Bag Limit: The bag limit is typically 2 Red Snapper per person per day for recreational fishing. However, this could vary based on the regulations at the time of our trip.

  • Size Limit: Red Snapper must meet a minimum size limit to be kept. Generally, the minimum size is 16 inches (fork length), but regulations can change, and the crew will ensure we're in full compliance.

  1. Hogfish

  • Bag Limit: The bag limit for Hogfish is 1 per person per day, and they must be a minimum of 16 inches long to keep.

  1. Mangrove Snapper

  • Bag Limit: The daily limit for Mangrove Snapper is usually 5 per person, and they must be at least 10 inches long to keep.

  1. Grunts

  • Bag Limit: Grunts typically don’t have strict limits, but the regulations for other species will guide our fishing practices, and the charter will ensure we’re following the rules for all catches.

  1. Scalloping:

  • Season: The season for scalloping in the Crystal River area typically runs from July through September. This trip is likely scheduled within the legal season, so you'll get to dive for the sweetest, freshest scallops straight from the Gulf!

  • Bag Limit: The legal limit for scallops is generally 2 gallons per person, or 1 pint of meat per person per day. The captain and crew will help ensure we are complying with all regulations while we gather our tasty catch.

Fish Processing and Travel Tips:

Once we've finished a successful day of fishing, the charter’s captain and mates will take care of cleaning and processing all of the fish. They'll neatly package the fillets in Ziploc bags for each person, so you don’t have to worry about any mess.

If you're flying home and want to bring your catch with you, simply bring a carry-on bag that you can pack the fish and scallops in. We’ll freeze or refrigerate your catch before you leave, so it stays fresh for your flight home. Many travelers choose to carry their fish in a cooler with gel packs or dry ice to maintain a safe temperature, and you can also check an extra bag if you prefer. Just make sure to consult with your airline about their rules for transporting frozen fish, as each airline may have slightly different policies.

Fishing License:

No need to worry about purchasing individual fishing licenses for this trip! Our charter covers everyone on board under their commercial fishing license, so you’ll be legally good to go without needing to buy a separate license for yourself.

With everything taken care of, all you need to do is enjoy the adventure and make memories with your fellow anglers. From the thrill of catching your next big fish to diving for those incredible scallops, this trip will be one for the books!

FAQ’S AND POLICY

Yes, we know this part might seem a bit tedious, but it’s important! We kindly ask that everyone who registers for a trip visits the FAQs and Policy page on our website. If you sign up for a trip without reviewing this information, it’s your responsibility. There’s a wealth of valuable information there that could influence your decision. Please make sure to check out all the FAQs and Policies on our website before signing up for a trip with us. Thank you!

EXPECTATIONS + NO DRAMA POLICY

We want to ensure that every trip with Her Wilderness is enjoyable and memorable, but we acknowledge that sometimes things don’t go as planned. Mother Nature has a significant impact on our outdoor adventures, so we encourage you to approach each trip with a positive attitude and a "go with the flow" mindset. If this feels unreasonable to you, we kindly ask that you reconsider registering for our events. Weather can be unpredictable, affecting activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing, and our top priority is always your safety. For instance, if your trip is focused on duck hunting but our guide believes a goose hunt is more feasible, we will follow their expert recommendation. If this kind of flexibility is not something you're comfortable with, we encourage you to think twice about joining us. We expect all participants to maintain a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. Many of our trips have faced changes, cancellations, or rescheduling, yet the understanding and adaptability of the group have made all the difference that still allows for an incredible experience! We take pride in creating fun experiences, even in challenging situations. Please be aware that our trips may involve sharing accommodations with others, unpredictable weather that could impact planned activities, limited bathroom facilities for larger groups, and the possibility of not harvesting the specific animal you hoped for. These are real scenarios that can arise, and while we’ll do our best to minimize issues, they can happen. We strive to maintain a drama-free and stress-free environment. If any participant brings negativity or drama, they will be asked to leave without a refund and will not be allowed to return. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and valued, so we ask for your cooperation in keeping a cool, calm, and collected attitude throughout the trip. We truly appreciate each of our customers and are committed to providing the best possible experience for all participants. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to creating unforgettable memories together!
