TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

We are headed back to Oolagah, Oklahoma for another unforgettable weekend of spoonbill fishing, but this time we are allowing guys! This means you can bring your dad, your boyfriend, husband or whomever you please! Be ready to work as reeling in these massive fish that often grow upwards of 80 lbs isn't always easy! These unique fish are native to Oklahoma, their elongated paddle-like beaks are used to detect prey. Did you know paddlefish were alive when dinosaurs were walking around during the late Cretaceous period? Talk about a prehistoric monster! The Oklahoma Wildlife Department has a research and management program involving an extensive process of netting, weighting, measuring, and marking paddlefish with a metal BAND on the lower jaw! Making it a possibility you leave this trip with some BLING! This trip will accommodate 4 couples. Plan to arrive after 4pm, on Thursday. Prepare to leave Sunday in the late afternoon.

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS + MISC. DETAILS

We will be staying in a large AirBNB in Ochelata, Oklahoma. This home will accommodate the 6 couples on this trip, offering spacious bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living rooms, and a full kitchen. In our down time we can relax on the porch swings, enjoy the Oklahoma countryside from the hot tub, play corn hole or shoot some pool. Our AirBNB will be located approximately 35 minutes from Lake Oologah. Our guide will have the lake scouted beforehand and will let us know which boat landing to meet at. On the off chance that our guide thinks we will find success at a different lake, our drive should not exceed an hour and 15 minutes.

TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN.

We are fishing for spoonbills, also known as paddlefish! You will need an Oklahoma Fishing License and a Paddlefish Permit for this trip. Paddlefish are prehistoric, filter feeding fish, therefore we will not be using bait to catch them. We will be snagging them with a stout surf rod, a heavy test line, and a barbless hook. The harvest limit is one paddlefish per day per person, with a total of two paddlefish harvests allowed per year. You will be able to catch as many spoonbills as you’d like, until you have one that you’d like to harvest.

Once you have chosen to harvest, our guide will filet and package the meat for us. Fun fact- paddlefish filets have a similar texture to pork chops when cooked! You can also get the beak of your paddlefish preserved in an european styled mount. Your coordinator will take any heads that will be mounted down to Skulls Unlimited in Oklahoma City at the conclusion of the trip.
