CODY, WY | BACKCOUNTRY HORSE PACK TRIP

TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

We are off to the beautiful area of Cody, Wyoming for our annual 4 day 3 night backcountry horseback trip. Eight ladies will have the trip of a lifetime exploring and packing out to the most remote areas of Wyoming saddled up on the back of a horse. This is what they call a stationary trip, we will set up a basecamp and remain at that location for the duration of our trip with the opportunity to enjoy short rides and adventures near camp. We will know more specific details like the exact trails and location of camp closer to July. Things like weather, trail conditions, flooding and bear activity come into play when planning a remote wilderness trip like this. We are very excited to continue a partnership with this trusted and experienced outfitter and his pack of horses! This trip is not for the faint of heart, we will roughin’ it at camp but this is sure to be a memorable experience. If you don’t have much experience with a horse that is okay, all are welcome to come no matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran who wants to explore a new area. You can expect a slow paced trail riding adventure with the intention of taking in the beautiful mountain scenery. When out at camp there will be no cell phone service and no itinerary. Just plan to relax, connect and take in whatever the weekend will bring. 

Plan to arrive around 4P.M. MDT, on Friday for a meet and greet with your fellow horseback riders at our Airbnb in Cody, Wyoming, followed by dinner at the well-known Proud Cut Saloon. If you’re like us, we like to plan ahead so take a look at their menu here. The town of Cody is known for hosting a rodeo every night and if our group feels up to it, we will definitely check it out! After our evening we can head back to the Airbnb and enjoy some relaxation in the hot tub or head off to bed to get a good night of sleep. 

Saturday morning we will depart the Airbnb to meet with our guides at their selected trailhead. We will head out into the Wyoming wilderness by horseback for the next two nights. We will travel up mountain valleys, through fresh mountain streams and across rolling mountain passes, being sure to take in the beauty around us! We will set up several canvas wall tents and start a campfire near some of the most pristine lakes and rivers in Cody, Wyoming. This is what we call “Home sweet home” for the weekend! 

Once we are settled in and comfortable the camp chef will start preparing dinner for us over the fire. Sunday will be our full day at camp. We can either ride out to a remote fishing area, or ride to sight-see! If you plan to fish, please be prepared to bring a fly or spin rods and appropriate flies or lures. If you plan on fishing, you MUST purchase a Wyoming Fishing License. A WY resident daily fishing license is $6.00/day. A non-resident daily fishing license is $14.00/day. Monday morning we will pack up our camp, and head back to the trailhead, arriving back to reality sometime in the late afternoon. Plan to depart from Cody after 5PM MDT. 

This trip includes one night of lodging in an Airbnb the evening before we pack out, two nights of lodging at camp, all meals while at camp, and a great weekend in Cody, Wyoming with 7 other like-minded women! At our Airbnb, it is likely you will have to share a room, bed and bathroom with others on this trip. Please be prepared for that! Our guides also have a rider weight-limit of no more than 250 lbs. The rule of thumb for horses is that they can safely carry no more than 20% of their body weight. Please be aware when signing up for this trip that this is a requirement put in place by the outfitters to ensure the safety and health of their horses and our riders.

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS + MISC. DETAILS

The evening before we pack out we will be staying in an Airbnb in Cody, WY near the airport. This 5 bedroom home sleeps 12 so it will be perfect for our group of 8 leaving plenty of room for everyone to spread out. You may still have to share a room or a bed with someone on this trip so please be prepared for that. There is a HOT TUB! So bring your swimsuits so we can relax and enjoy an evening together before packing out the next morning!

We are able to offer this weekend at only $1,500 per person, which will include a nonrefundable deposit of $500 and 2 additional payments of $500.

It’s always a good idea to book your flight after joining the facebook group! That way you are able to communicate with others attending the trip to book your flights in sync and split rental car or uber costs!

Yes, this is the boring part. BUT it’s important. We ask each person who registers for a trip to go and visit the FAQs and Policy page of our website. Things not included in this trip: 

-Any tips to your guides/outfitters - please wait to hear from your coordinator on a suggested tipping amount and plan to always bring cash for tipping. Tipping doesn’t apply to all trips. 

-Transportation. Your airline or rental car is not included. Please do not expect to arrive at the airport and have a ride unless specifically planned out with someone. We suggest that you wait to book any travel plans until you’ve talked with other girls going on the trip. Chances are other people are also flying/driving in and you will be able to coordinate plans with them. It is always cheaper to split a rental car 4 ways! 

MEET YOUR COORDINATOR 

Tia will be your coordinator for this backcountry horseback/ camping adventure. This will be her second consecutive year coordinating this trip which happens to be one what she described as “ absolutely life changing!” She is originally from Rockford, Illinois, but moved to Colorado on a whim at 21 years old on a road trip that never ended. She was raised on a farm around hunting, fishing, horses and four wheelers. Tia has now been in Colorado for 14 years. She became Colorado Coordinator in 2022 and my first Her Wilderness trip was Pensacola Shark Fishing. She is a single mama to an amazing 9 year old fellow adventurer. Her and her daughter spend their free time trout and bass fishing, camping, paddle boarding, and backcountry hiking in this amazing state where every day feels like a vacation!

This group is where you can connect with other trip attendees, ask your trip coordinator questions, and receive additional trip details. You can discuss packing lists, travel plans, and more. Please be sure you use a valid working email to register for this trip. If you do not have a facebook account please send an email to questions@herwilderness.co so that we can make the appropriate accommodations to get you additional trip details. Please read carefully: please make all payments by their due dates. If payments are late we will always work with you. however if there is no communication we will assume you are forfeiting your spot and any payments made will not be refunded.
