TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

We are heading to Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison, Colorado. Sitting at the center of the Curecanti National Recreation area is Blue Mesa Reservoir, which is Colorado’s largest body of water. The reservoir and surrounding public lands bring people from across the state and around the country to fish, boat, swim or just take in the scenery. This is one of the top Kokanee Salmon fisheries in the United States. Aside from a weekend of amazing salmon fishing, the chance at catching large Colorado Lake Trout is not out of the question. We will be spending 2 mornings out on the reservoir fishing for 4 hours each morning. The Gunnison Valley has some of the best angling opportunities you’ll find anywhere in the state. Colorado Parks and Wildlife rates more than 30 miles of rivers in the area as Gold Medal Water and maintains trophy lake trout and kokanee salmon fisheries in Blue Mesa Reservoir. Three world-class rivers and countless miles of creek fishing can be found close to campus and the opportunities to explore new water are endless. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a hike to one of the area’s high mountain lakes where people can find the angling experience of a lifetime. Outside of fishing, we will be exploring the hidden gem Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park. This park offers steep cliffs, winding canyons, and spiraling river views. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America. With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock, water, and sky. Please plan to arrive after 4pm on Friday and depart around noon on Monday!

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS + MISC. DETAILS

We will be staying in a cozy cabin in Parlin, CO. This is 17 miles from Gunnison where we will be fishing. It is close enough for amenities, but also offers that remote mountain feel! There are 6 beds, 3.5 baths, and a full stocked kitchen. There is also a beautiful back deck overlooking a  running stream in the back of the home where our free time can be spent fishing if interested. You will have to share a bed with others on this trip, please be prepared for that.

TARGET SPECIES, REGULATIONS AND PROCESSING OF TAXIDERMY OR MEAT HARVEST PLAN.

Without a doubt, the cool Summer months on Blue Mesa Reservoir are best for red-hot angling action! This lake has one of the largest populations of Kokanee Salmon in the nation and Summer is the time to get ‘em. The Rainbow trout population has also been booming in the last few years, keeping anglers busy. We are planning to primarily target Kokanee Salmon on our fishing trip. There is also the possibility of catching large Colorado Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Yellow Perch. After a successful day on the water, the guides will filet all of our fish at their provided fish cleaning station. We will be providing bags so everyone can freeze their catches prior to flying out. Our guides have fully equipped boats with all the fishing gear needed to have a successful day out on the water. You will need to purchase a CO angling license linked here
