If Alaska has been calling your name, we’ve got the perfect itinerary to answer the call! This is a land where mountains pierce the sky, salmon run wild through glacier-fed rivers, and bald eagles soar as if they’re showing off just for you. Whether you’re dreaming of catching your first halibut or just want to sip coffee while gazing at fjords and fishing boats, Alaska offers something for everyone. Our most recent 7-day women’s trip through Alaska was nothing short of magical, equal parts adventure, connection, and jaw-dropping beauty. So we’re giving you the inside scoop on the perfect 7-day itinerary for your first time visiting The Last Frontier.
Day 1: Welcome to the Wild (Anchorage Arrival Day)
Arrive in Anchorage and kick off your adventure with dinner at Simon & Seaforts, a true Alaskan gem perched above the city. Order the crab-stuffed halibut or Alaskan king crab legs, trust us. If you're traveling with a group, build in buffer time for airport pick-ups and rental logistics (because Alaska time is real, and sometimes slow is the vibe).
Pro Tip: Book your Airbnb near just outside downtown Anchorage. This allows for easy access to restaurants and coastal walking trails but keeps you out of the downtown area. Anchorage is our least favorite part of Alaska!
Day 2: Scenic Drive to Soldotna – Heart of the Kenai Peninsula
Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at Snow City Cafe before hitting the road. Snow City is very popular so GO EARLY otherwise you will have a long wait to get seated. From there, it’s a 3-hour drive to Soldotna and it is one of the most scenic in the world, watch for moose, mountain vistas, and turquoise rivers along the way.
Midway, stop in Cooper Landing for a stretch along the Kenai River. After a grocery run and checking-in at your Airbnb, settle in with a home-cooked dinner and a glass of wine under the midnight sun.
Can’t-miss: Snap a few photos of the dramatic cliffs along the Turnagain Arm.
Day 3: Salmon Fishing on the Kasilof River
It’s time to put your skills to the test. Meet up with your guides, Andrew & Aaron from Chadwicks Fishing Guide Service, for a full morning of salmon fishing on the Kasilof River. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned angler, the energy of reeling in your first Alaskan salmon is unbeatable.
After your fresh catch is dropped off at a local fish processor, head to St. Elias Brewing Co. for local craft beer and wood-fired pizza. Cap off the night with cocktails at the Bridge Lounge, where the sun still lingers high in the sky at 9 PM.
Day 4: Fly-Out Bear Viewing & Fishing in Lake Clark National Park
This is a bucket list day. Board a floatplane for an unforgettable fly-out adventure into the Big River Lakes Area or Lake Clark National Park home to grizzlies, glacier lakes, and total serenity. Spend the afternoon watching bears in the wild and casting lines in remote waters where the only sound is your own laughter echoing off the mountains. When you land, drop off your fish and grab a bite from the Wednesday Market food trucks or local favorite The Duck Inn.
Important: Bring extra cash to tip your guides.
Day 5: Explore the Coastal Charms of Homer
Drive down to Homer, known as the “end of the road,” where mountains meet sea. Stop for a photo at the iconic Homer sign and spend the afternoon shopping the Homer Spit, eating fish tacos on the boardwalk, and visiting the famous Homer Spit. Enjoy an early steakhouse dinner at AJ’s and wind down with a relaxing spa session at Homer Spa. If you’ve been dreaming of a chill evening in cozy robes, this is your night.
Day 6: Free Day in Homer + Salty Dawg Vibes
Sleep in, sip coffee, and head to Wild Honey Bistro for crepes and fresh smoothies. Today is yours to explore: kayaking, local museums, tidepooling, or reading a book on the deck of your Airbnb.
Later, regroup for sunset drinks at the Salty Dawg Saloon, a classic, quirky bar that feels like the soul of Homer. Share stories, toast to your adventures, and eat whatever you’re craving. No plans, just freedom.
Day 7: Halibut Fishing + Packing Up the Memories
Rise early for a full-day halibut fishing charter. This is the crown jewel of any Alaska trip. The ocean will challenge you, inspire you, and maybe even gift you a trophy-sized catch. After your adventure, grab take-out and pick up last-minute souvenirs before heading back to the Airbnb to pack up. You’ll be salty, tired, and completely satisfied.
Day 8: Farewell Alaska – Until Next Time
One last stop at Two Sisters Cafe for breakfast then pick up your processed fish, load the van, and head back to Anchorage. Wrap up the trip with one final group dinner at Moose Tooth Pizza and say your goodbyes. at least for now.
Tip: Ship your fish home from Anchorage, and relive your trip every time you cook it.
Final Thoughts:
This trip was more than an itinerary, it was a connection to the land, to each other, and to something wild in ourselves. Whether you're coming to Alaska to fish, explore, or simply feel more alive, this 7-day plan gives you the best of it all. So gather your friends, pack your boots, and get ready. Alaska is waiting.
