TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

We are heading back to Miller, South Dakota with Flight Stoppers Guide Service for a weekend full of snow goose hunting. This trip was so fun last year that we can't wait to do it all over again! Snow goose hunting in South Dakota at peak migration is some of the best hunting you will ever experience. South Dakota is an area that will see a spring migration of tens of millions of waterfowl as they make their way back to their breeding grounds; which includes millions of snow geese. We are going to be staying at The PitchFork Ranch, as we did last year. Most of our hunts in the morning will be within 20-40 minutes of our lodging.

The cost of this trip will cover two mornings of hunting, two nights stay at The PitchFork Ranch, and most meals. At our lodge, it is likely you will have to share a room or bed with others on this trip. Please be prepared for that!

MISC. TRIP DETAILS

We recommend you bring the following:

License: You will need to comply with the state laws for South Dakota (see below). Licenses can be purchased online, here.
Clothing: Bring a good mix of warm clothing! Goose hunting starts long before the sun comes up and it is often humid and cold in the hours before the sun warms the fields. Dress in layers so that you can take off gear as the morning warms up.
Firearm: We suggest a 12-gauge that will handle 3 or 3.5 inch magnums. (no plug needed)
Ammo: We recommend 12 gauge 3" or 3.5" shells. We prefer steel BBs and BBBs to get the job done. Load plenty of non-toxic heavy shots if you can afford those options. Heavy shot is a deadly load in 3" mag 2 shots. Above all, remember to bring plenty of ammunition!
Food and Drink: Bring plenty of snacks and something to drink while out in the field. A 6-hour hunt can seem like a lifetime!

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS + REGULATIONS

Residents

All residents, regardless of age, need a 2021 Migratory Bird Certification ($5) and one of the following licenses for which they qualify:

Combination (small game and fishing)...................................................................$55

• Federal Waterfowl Stamp is not required.

• Resident landowners do not need a state license to hunt their own land.

Nonresidents

The nonresident Spring Light Goose License is valid the entire season statewide. Licenses can be purchased on the GFP website or from license agents. All nonresidents must possess one of the following licenses for which they qualify:

Federal Waterfowl Stamp is not required.

Migratory Bird Certification is included with the adult and youth license purchase.

Habitat Stamp

A habitat stamp is required for anyone 18 years of age or older who purchases or applies for a hunting, fishing or furbearer license. This includes both residents and nonresidents. The habitat stamp must be purchased before obtaining or applying for a license or at the time of a license sale or application.

We are able to offer this weekend at $650 per person, which will include a nonrefundable deposit of $250 and two additional payments of $200.

AIRPORTS + TRAVEL INFORMATION

We recommend waiting to book your flights to be in sync with the other women attending to make traveling from the airport to the lodge easier. You’ll want to arrive at the lodge in the afternoon on Friday, March 18th, and plan to depart after Sunday’s hunt.

MEET THE COORDINATOR

Meet Sami Jo! Sami Jo is from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and loves being a part of Her Wilderness. Growing up, she followed her dad around guiding pheasant hunts in Huron, South Dakota. Since the beginning, she has always been hooked on the outdoors. She loves to hunt waterfowl, chase upland birds, and anything else that includes being outside.

WE WILL THEN REACH OUT TO OUR WAITLIST AND GET YOUR SPOT FILLED BY ANOTHER PARTY. BY REGISTERING FOR ANY HER WILDERNESS TRIP YOU ARE UNDER THE FULL UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. We are able to offer a partial refund only if we fill your spot with a member on the waiting list. At that time we may be able to refund any additional payments made outside of your deposit. Your deposit is NOT refundable. If your spot does not get filled, we will not be able to offer a refund.
