There is something special about an upland hunt. Walking through beautiful cover, watching a bird dog work in front of you, waiting for that sudden flush, and sharing every exciting moment with a group of women beside you. This February, six women are heading to North Carolina for a classic Southern quail hunting experience! We’ll spend a full day hunting beautiful upland habitat near Harrells, North Carolina, alongside experienced guides and trained bird dogs as we pursue our target species for the weekend: quail. Whether this is your first upland hunt or you have spent plenty of time behind a bird dog, this trip is designed to give every woman an exciting, welcoming, and hands on experience in the field.

Our group will split into two smaller hunting groups, giving everyone plenty of opportunity in the field and allowing for more personalized instruction throughout the day. Then it’s time to follow the dogs! There is nothing quite like watching a good bird dog work. We’ll make our way through classic quail habitat while our guides and dogs search for coveys ahead of us. When a dog locks onto point, get ready. Things can happen quickly when a covey takes flight!

We’ll hunt throughout the morning before gathering back together for a hot lunch prepared by our outfitter and served on site. After lunch, we’ll head right back into the field for another afternoon hunt. Our guides will be alongside us throughout the experience to help with everything from understanding how to hunt safely over dogs to positioning, shooting opportunities, and becoming more comfortable in an upland hunting environment. At the end of the hunt, harvested quail will be cleaned and packaged by the outfitter so you can bring your birds home and enjoy the reward of your adventure.

After a full day in the field, we’ll head back to our lake cottage in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Our cottage gives us plenty of room to relax, share meals, tell stories from the day, and enjoy a little downtime together. The home features three large bedrooms, two bathrooms, an outdoor shower, and plenty of shared living space. And this isn’t a bad place to spend a winter weekend!

The property also offers a hot tub, kayaks, bicycles, paddleboards, and lake access just a short walk away. Depending on weather and how much downtime we have, you can explore the property or simply grab a drink, climb into the hot tub, and relax after a day of chasing birds. Sleeping arrangements will be shared.

A 12 or 20 gauge or smaller shotgun is recommended for this hunt. Additional gear recommendations and a complete packing list will be provided to registered guests before the trip. All participants will also need the appropriate North Carolina small game hunting license. We’ll provide additional information before the trip so you know exactly what you need to purchase. Most importantly, you do not need to be an experienced upland hunter to join us.

Her Wilderness trips are about creating a space where women can try something new, ask questions, build confidence, and learn alongside other women without feeling like they need to show up already knowing everything. Come for the quail hunting, but expect to leave with so much more. New skills. New confidence. New friendships. A cooler of quail to take home. And probably a new appreciation for the moment a bird dog goes on point.

We’ll see you in North Carolina!

Travel insurance

If you are planning to purchase travel insurance for your Her Wilderness trip, PLEASE purchase it NOW and do not wait until right before departure. Many travel insurance policies require coverage to be purchased within just a few days of your initial trip registration or first payment in order to qualify for the best and most comprehensive coverage options. Waiting too long can limit what is covered or completely remove eligibility for certain protections.

We highly encourage ALL Her Wilderness participants to purchase travel insurance shortly after registering for a trip. Ideally, travel insurance should be purchased within just a few days of booking in order to maximize your coverage options and help protect your investment.

Travel insurance can help provide protection for things such as:

• Flight cancellations or delays

• Lost or delayed baggage

• Rental car issues

• Unexpected medical emergencies

• Additional lodging expenses caused by travel disruptions

• Trip interruptions or cancellations

• Weather related delays

• Emergency transportation needs

While we sincerely hope every trip goes perfectly smoothly, travel is unpredictable and unexpected situations can happen. Having travel insurance in place can provide peace of mind and financial protection should something outside of your control arise before or during your adventure.

REGISTRATION & COMMUNICATION

All registrations are completed through the WeTravel platform, where you will receive confirmation and payment management support. After booking, your coordinator will contact you with next steps, access to your private trip group, and invitations to scheduled virtual meetings. To ensure communication is efficient and organized, coordinators will provide their preferred contact method and will not communicate through personal social media accounts.
