Kick off the Early Canada Goose Season in New Richmond, Wisconsin! Get ready to experience an unforgettable early Canada goose hunt in beautiful West Central Wisconsin! From September 1st to September 15th, the early goose season provides an exciting opportunity to target geese before the main fall migration. New Richmond and the surrounding areas are a prime spot for this hunt, thanks to the large population of resident geese and relatively low hunting pressure. This is the perfect chance to enjoy a world-class hunting experience in a serene and productive environment. This weekend isn’t just about the hunt—it’s about creating lasting memories with friends and fellow hunters in an idyllic setting. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, this trip promises to be an incredible way to kick off the early Canada goose season!

Our guide will be preparing ahead of time by scouting out the best fields to hunt. Whether it's finding existing fields or uncovering new ones, Nick will ensure that we hunt in the most productive areas for optimal success. We hunt in 100% private fields, all pre-scouted to give you the best opportunity for a successful and enjoyable hunt. Each field is carefully selected for its accessibility, with just a short drive or easy walk to the blind, making your experience both convenient and comfortable. We’ll be hunting over Dave Smith Decoys, renowned for their realistic design, paired with the expert calling of our guide, Nick. Nick is a highly accomplished goose caller, having won numerous regional calling contests and earned recognition as a multi-time Minnesota State Duck Calling Champion—including a 5th place finish at the World Championship! As the host of the Goose Tech Mobile App and creator of the signature goose call with Pacific Calls, Nick brings unrivaled expertise and passion for the sport. With his professional calling skills, you’ll be in for a truly unforgettable experience as the birds respond to his calls.

Our hunt will begin in the early morning hours, ensuring we arrive at our blinds well before sunrise to take advantage of the prime hunting time. Depending on the field location, our guide will inform us in advance whether we’ll be hunting out of layout blinds or A-frame blinds, both of which offer comfort and concealment while ensuring a great view of the action. The goal is to finish birds as close as possible, giving everyone a front-row seat to the excitement. Once we’ve bagged our limit, we’ll return to our beautiful log cabin Airbnb, located just steps away from a prime recreational and fishing lake. This cozy retreat offers the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Spend time on the spacious deck, taking in the scenic views of the lake and enjoying the tranquility of the area. As the evening sets in, we can gather around the fire pit, share stories, enjoy some s’mores, and listen to the haunting calls of the loons echoing across the water.

Canada Goose Hunting: Early Season Regulations in Wisconsin The early Canada goose hunting season in Wisconsin offers a fantastic opportunity to pursue these iconic waterfowl before the regular season begins. However, like all hunting, it’s essential to follow state regulations to ensure a safe and successful hunt. Here’s a detailed overview of the rules and guidelines for hunting Canada geese during the early season in Wisconsin:

Season Dates & Timing:

  • Early Season Dates: The early Canada goose season typically starts in mid-September and runs through the end of September, but exact dates can vary each year. It’s important to check the current year’s hunting regulations from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for the specific dates.

  • Hours of Operation: Hunting hours for the early season usually start at half an hour before sunrise and end at sunset. Make sure you are aware of local sunrise and sunset times during the dates you plan to hunt.

Licenses and Permits:

  • Hunting License: All hunters must possess a valid Wisconsin hunting license to hunt Canada geese. This includes residents and non-residents. If you don’t have a license, you will need to purchase one before hunting.

  • Migratory Bird Stamp: Hunters must also possess a federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (commonly known as the "duck stamp"). This is required for all migratory bird hunters in addition to your regular hunting license.

  • Additional Permits: Depending on the area where you plan to hunt, you may need additional permits or registration for specific zones. Be sure to review the DNR guidelines for any special rules that may apply to the region you’re hunting in.

Bag Limits and Restrictions:

  • Daily Bag Limit: The daily bag limit for Canada geese during the early season is typically 5 geese per hunter. However, hunters should be aware that different zones within the state may have varying limits or restrictions based on local population management goals.

  • Possession Limit: The possession limit is generally twice the daily bag limit, meaning hunters can have up to 10 geese in possession, assuming they have legally hunted that many in accordance with the regulations.

  • Geese Species: Only Canada geese are legal to hunt during the early season. Hunters should be able to distinguish between Canada geese and other goose species, such as white-fronted geese or snow geese, to avoid any violations.

Stay Informed:

  • Current Regulations: The Wisconsin DNR may adjust rules or provide updates based on annual bird counts or environmental factors. Before heading out, always consult the current Wisconsin waterfowl hunting regulations or visit the DNR’s website to ensure you have the latest information.

By following these regulations, you’ll help maintain Wisconsin’s rich wildlife heritage while ensuring that your early season Canada goose hunting trip is both successful and enjoyable. Always respect the environment and fellow hunters, and remember to check the specific rules each season for any changes to the regulations.
