TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

Imagine calling in a coyote from 1,000 yards out–watching him approach until he’s just 25 yards away, hair bristling, looking for dinner. Join a small group of Her Wilderness women as they hunt these elusive predators in a beautiful Wyoming setting. While we aren’t chasing after coyotes we will have the opportunity to test our skills shooting prairie dogs!

During this three-day, two-night trip, attendees will have a busy weekend near Lusk, Wyoming. Here, at an elevation of around 5,000 feet, the cool climate enhances the pelt quality of their local predators. Usually a light silver or pale tan in color, the pelts are of good size and very thick. In terrain that ranges from wide open fields to cedar filled canyons, the guides have years of experience calling in coyotes in all weather conditions.

We must emphasize that these predators are smart and cagey, but with a good attitude and appreciation for the beautiful Wyoming wilderness, everyone on this hunt is sure to walk away with great memories (if not a coyote). One of our guides describes, “We typically call 7-10 stands a day--spend about 15-30 minutes per location using distressed jack rabbit or rodent calls. Sometimes we get lucky and jump one while driving down the road--anyway we can get them we'll take them. We all love coyote hunting because it is such a challenge, matching wits with the best!”

Attendees can expect to arrive at the ranch on Friday afternoon, spending some time at the long-range shooting course with two guides to get sighted in and familiarized with our firearms and ensuring everyone is up to speed on safety. That evening, we will enjoy dinner together and some time relaxing at the lodge. Saturday, after an early breakfast, we will break into groups of three and head out for a full day of guided coyote hunting. Lunch will be out in the field, and when we all return to the lodge in the evening we will have another dinner together while recapping the day’s adventures. One more early breakfast at the lodge on Sunday will be followed by a few hours of hunting. Free prairie dog hunting throughout the weekend is available as desired.

Review: We saw 24 or 25 coyotes for the whole hunt. We connected with those that were in range and did not blow any opportunities. We cannot say thank you enough for all your efforts. We felt that we were treated as though we were family!

Wyoming weather can be extremely unpredictable–a sunny morning can quickly turn into a snowy afternoon, especially in early November. The best way to prepare is by packing a variety of layers made especially for outdoor recreation. A more detailed packing list will be provided to trip registrants.

LODGING ACCOMMODATIONS + MISC. DETAILS

Two nights of lodging and meals (two dinners, two breakfasts, and one lunch) are included in the cost of this trip. The lodge is a stunning, 8,500-square-foot log residence. Each of its rooms have two queen sized beds and private baths. These rooms are furnished with hand-made log furniture and pillow top mattresses. Attendees can expect to share a room with one other woman, but they will not need to share a bed. The main focal point of the lodge (besides its sweeping views) is the majestic great room with vaulted ceilings. Here, meals are served ranch-style, which means they are generous and tasty portions. Tips to the guides and ranch staff are not included in the trip cost but are strongly encouraged.

Originally from Wisconsin, Sam has lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for ten years now. Her favorite pastimes include big game, waterfowl, and antler hunting. However, whenever she visits Wisconsin, she’s sure to squeeze in a coyote hunt or two. While she is passionate about the mountain landscapes and hunting opportunities the state of Wyoming provides, her nostalgia for coyote hunting with her family in Wisconsin spurred her interest in planning this predator hunt.
