TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION
ALASKA HERE WE COME! We are heading to southern Alaska for five days of hiking, fishing and adventure. Plan to fly into Anchorage, Alaska on Wednesday August 23rd before 11am so we can head south for four days of fishing/exploring in the halibut capital of the world, Homer. This trip will include two full days of halibut fishing near Homer, two days of exploring and four nights of lodging in an Airbnb. This does not include the price of a rental vehicle or fuel which you will be required to spilt between the other women on this trip. If you have time to extend your trip, we highly recommend it!
We will be staying in Homer, AK during the whole trip. You have the opportunity to extend your stay if you wish. Our itinerary is as follows:
August 23rd: Arrive in Anchorage. Travel to Homer. You can make flight arrangements from Anchorage to Homer or you can plan to rent a vehicle with others on the trip. The drive from Anchorage to Home is a 4 hour trip. You can make some stops at the scenic overlooks to stretch your legs along the way. Once all participants have registered for this trip we can work together to decide travel arrangements that work the best for everyone!
August 24th: Fish with Chelsea and Jessie on the Irish Mist. We can’t wait to join this female crew again! You will meet Captain Chelsea and her first mate Jessie on the Irish Mist for a full day of chasing after Halibut and Salmon! Our trip with them last year was a blast and we truly can’t wait to see them again. We were able to land 6 species of fish all which came home with us in fillets to fill our freezer! This will be a long 10-12 hour day of fishing. Limit of 2 Halibut per person.
August 25th: FREE DAY- Stay in Homer. There are so many fun excursions that leave out of the Homer area and this is the perfect day to take advantage of what the area has to offer! Some items would include: shopping on the Homer Spit, Visiting all of the local restaurants and watering holes, Glacier Kayaking Excursions, Bear Viewing, Helicopter tours, Book another fishing charter!
August 26th: Fish Ninilchik - Our guide has ample experience guiding women specifically targeting large halibut. All photos shown are taken on his boat that we will be fishing on out of Ninilchik, Alaska for one day. This will be a 6-8 hour day of fishing. Limit of 2 Halibut per person.
August 27th: FREE DAY/TRAVEL DAY - Depart from Homer or Anchorage.
ABOUT THE AREA
We will be driving from Anchorage to Homer for the duration of our trip. The views along the Sterling Highway provide a teaser of the sights in store in the charming, colorful town that lies ahead, Homer. As the road makes a final turn east along the bluffs overlooking Kachemak Bay, Homer unfolds completely. It's a truly incredible panorama of mountains, white peaks, glaciers, and the famous Homer Spit, a long strip of land that stretches into a beautiful deep blue bay.
Downtown Homer is strung along Pioneer Avenue on a hill between high bluffs to the north and Kachemak Bay to the south. It's little wonder that many Alaskans choose to vacation in Homer: the scenery is inspiring and the climate exceptionally mild. This community of about 5,700 residents is protected from the severe northern cold by the Kenai Mountains to the north and east. As a visitor, this is a town that tempts you to stay for a while. Between the excellent museums, restaurants, art galleries, great scenery, and interesting side trips to the other side of Kachemak Bay, you could easily spend a week – or a lifetime – here.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS + REGULATIONS + PROCESSING
An Alaska Sport Fishing License (7-day, $45) is required to attend this trip. Find out more information about license and regulations HERE.
Processing can look different for each person that is on the trip. Some people prefer to pay to ship their fish home directly from the processor in insulated cooler boxes. Shipping with the processor will be the expensive option. We recommend that you ship your clothing items home via USPS or UPS and then pack your luggage bags full of fish, wrap them in your insulated clothing/layers and check them on your airline. Last year half of the women shipped their fish home and their processing/shipping fees came to around $700per person. The other half of the women shipped their clothing items home and flew their fish on the airline, their processing/shipping came to $250 per person. It is completely up to you how you do this. You can talk further with your coordinator MacKenzie about this as she has experience doing both ways and she will be flying her fish home with her on the airline again this year!
