A crisp Saturday morning in November can bring excitement to any avid hunter, but for this group of 12 women, it brought so much more.
Her Wilderness recently hosted a waterfowl + pheasant hunt trip alongside Watson Hunting Camp + Bar. The night before our first hunt, the members came together for a night of fun and bonding to get to know one another better. The following morning brought ample amounts of new excitement to the members attending the trip, including many first-time experiences for a handful of them. The early hours of the day were split, where 6 women went out to the duck blind, and 6 headed out to the field to target geese.
“A lot of the girls had never been on a goose hunt before, so it was amazing to be a part of their first experience,” said Paige Woodrum, an Ohio native who made the trek out to spend time hunting in Minnesota. “We took tons of pictures, laughed hysterically for hours, made fools of ourselves trying to blow a goose call for the first time, and made memories to last a lifetime.”
After a successful morning, it was time to head back to grab a bite to eat and prepare for the afternoon pheasant hunt. The entire group of women went out to the field this time around, which was beneficial to cover as much ground as possible. 12 pheasants were taken, one for each woman on the trip.
“It was cool seeing the [bird] dogs work,” said Emily Peterson, a member who made her way up from Iowa to attend the trip. “But my favorite part was how we all cheered each other on when someone downed a pheasant. Most of us went in there as strangers and came out as close friends.”
After a steak dinner and more bonding, there was one more morning of duck and goose hunts to be had. And while that Sunday morning wasn’t as successful as the previous day, the friendships made on this trip among the women and the guides who took the members on the adventures were one to remember.
“Watson Hunting Camp’s guides are some of the coolest and easy going guys I have ever met. All genuinely good guys who are clearly very well seasoned with waterfowl and pheasant hunting” noted Bailey Barnes, another member who attended the trip.
This successful hunting weekend was one that will live on in the memories of our members for a lifetime.
“I look forward to growing upon the friendships I made with such knowledgeable and passionate sportswomen as we continue to empower each other and own our wilderness,” said member Maggie Carsello.
To those who helped make this trip possible:
A special thanks to Watson Hunting Camp for providing us your space and allowing these women who attended the trip to experience new things along the way.
Thank you to Hardy Face Paint, who donated one of their facepaint kits for every single woman who attended the trip.
Finally, thank you to Brass Foundry Brewing for providing great brews for the women after their long days out in the blind and field.
